1978 27-foot Cape Dory Sailboat – Classic Cruiser – Located in Virginia $4,900 OBO
For sale is my 1978 27 ft Cape Dory sailboat, currently stored on the hard in Virginia. YSM8 Yanmar engine, 4-foot draft, 12volt DC system, roller furler, Danforth anchor, chain and rode, main sail cove, tiller cover, bow rail, stern rail and double lifelines, mast head fly, bulkhead mounted compass, horizon digital depth meter, cold manual potable water system, interior cushion, spare anchor, Garmin 76 handheld GPS, first aid kit, yacht ensign, Harken roller furlin, Jack lines and safety harnesses, docking lines and fenders. Also includes Ecoflow heater/AC w/battery, which was about $1,000 new. NO head (was removed by previous owner).
I purchased the boat in 2025 with plans to cruise extensively, but my personal circumstances changed, and I relocated to Spain shortly afterwards. I thought I would be returning in the fall, but was unable to do so and have had very little opportunity to sail her. She has been stored out of the water for the past year. She's a great boat, and I regret not being able to sail or maintain her, so I'm selling so someone else can bring her back into service and enjoy her. Everything worked the last time I checked. The photos are from last year and reflect more or less how I left her, although I had the boatyard sand the hull in the fall last year, thinking I was coming back, but it didn't happen. A survey was done on her in 2017 when the previous owner bought her, which I can provide upon request.
The boat is being sold as-is, and I encourage serious buyers to inspect her. She will need recommissioning after being stored ashore, and I have priced her accordingly.
Cape Dory boats are well known for their solid construction, classic lines, and capable cruising performance.
